Service Inside Trinity

Service Inside Trinity

As a community of faith, we understand ourselves to be Christ’s body in the world until Jesus comes again. When we speak about serving “inside” the community, we are referring healthy participation within the organization. To serve Jesus’ body is to participate in the congregation’s larger mission. Too often we think service means we get to do what we want or what we like. Rather, service means to contribute in whatever ways are required for the sake of the congregation’s purpose in the world.

A discipleship church should be a place where service is a way of life. A discipleship church is a place where we don’t have to serve; rather, we get to serve. How incredible is it that Christ has called us to be his body until he comes again! Service is a privilege and joy.

What is God up to?
Jesus came to earth not to be served but to serve, giving his life as ransom for many.

What are we up to?
Becoming the greatest by serving (Mk. 10:35 ff) to all. Martin Luther said it this way: We are slaves to none, servants to all (“Freedom of a Christian,” 1520).
